The old Canoneta orange variety is an autochthonous species, which means that it originated in its current distribution area in the valley of Sóller on Mallorca and can only be found there. Named after its breeder, the village doctor Metge Canonet, the mother of all Sóller oranges is mainly harvested in March and April. It doesn't look particularly pretty, so it didn't sell very well. Due to the recent return to old, site-suitable varieties, it is now being increasingly cultivated again. We were won over by their "inner values", especially their sweet juice with a slightly sour note and their aromatic peel, and so we preserved a batch of the freshest goods from a small family-run orange plantation in this spirit.
