Psyllium, although native to India, had already been used by the Egyptians for more than 1000 years before our era for its laxative properties. It is a perennial herbaceous plant, of which we use the husk (also called the seed coat). The organic blond psyllium seed is very rich in polysaccharide fibers and in particular in mucilages. These swell on contact with water, and can absorb up to 8 times their volume of water. They are the ones who give organic blond psyllium its many nutritional qualities.
