Basmati rice from Oltresole is an Italian artisanal product traditionally grown in the rice fields of the lower Ferrara area. It is a long grain rice variety typical of northern India and Pakistan. The term "Basmati" derives from the word "vasmati" which in Sanskrit means "fragrant". The meaning of its name refers to its most appreciated feature: the richness of aroma and fragrance. Basmati rice remains soft and is easier to process than the more classic types of rice.
