Oltresole Basmati rice is a product grown using only traditional and artisanal methods. ANDa variety of long-grain rice, typical of northern India and Pakistan. The term “Basmati” is derived from the word “vasmati”, which in Sanskrit means “fragrant”. The meaning of its name refers to its most appreciated characteristic: the richness of its aroma and fragrance. Basmati rice remains soft and is easier to work with than more traditional types of rice. Compared to other varieties of rice, basmati rice has a lower glycemic index – the speed at which the level of glucose in the blood increases following the ingestion of a certain amount of food – thanks to the fact that it is richer in amylose, the component of starch that is less digestible for humans. Basmati, like other types of rice, can be cooked in various ways. It can be boiled, simmered, steamed or pilaf. The cooking time of basmati rice varies depending on the cooking method. Oltresole white basmati boiled in water cooks in approximately 10-12 minutes. Basmati rice is not the most suitable rice for preparing risottos and soups, but is mainly used to accompany spicy dishes based on fish, meat and vegetables and is good both hot and cold. Basmati rice is delicious even without seasoning, but to make it more appetizing it can be flavored using lemon zest or juice, black cardamom, cloves, turmeric, curry or peppercorns.
