Rio Huimbi Ecuador

Milk chocolate with 42% cocoa content The finely aromatic Nacional variety, combined with strong malt and caramel notes. Suitable for red wines with a strong wood and tannin content. Also with creamy white wines such as Zweigelt, Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris or mature Rieslings. The flavored cocoa for this excellent milk chocolate – Rio Huimbi Ecuador comes from Ecuador. It has a cocoa content of 42%. The Arriba Nacional cocoa comes from Ecuador. This is one of the highest quality aromatic cocoas in the world, but only accounts for 10% of global production. The name “Arriba” goes back to a Swedish explorer who was traveling on the Guayas River. There he smelled a chocolatey aroma and asked the locals where it came from. They replied, “de río arriba,” which means upstream. The expression has remained.  ‘“Nacional” refers to the fact that this type of cocoa only grows in Ecuador. The aromatic cocoa has a nutty, fruity taste with a hint of orange and floral nuances of jasmine. Ecuador is considered the cradle of the cocoa tree. This is because it is proven that cocoa was cultivated and used over 5300 years ago. Genetic research has shown that Arriba Nacional cocoa comes from these trees. The area where the Arriba plants grew at that time was Zamora Chinchipe. From there, cocoa spread towards the coast and north towards Mexico. Because of the Frosty Pod disease of 1917, which affects young cocoa fruits and causes them to grow irregularly and lose their color. The fungal spores then grow on the pods and spread, and the witches' broom disease of 1921 destroyed a large population of cocoa trees. If the fungus attacks a flower, a healthy cocoa pod cannot develop. If this happens to the entire tree, there will be no complete harvest on that tree. The fungus can only be contained by cutting out and burning the affected branches. Due to these two plant diseases, the Nacional variety of cocoa trees on the coast of Ecuador were decimated to a minimum. Now, reforestation with foreign cocoa varieties has been carried out. This resulted in hybridization. However, there are hybrids with a very high proportion of Arriba. Over the years, trees have also been found that were planted before the plant diseases occurred and have proven to be immune to them. This means that they are 100% Arriba-Nacional. Breeding programs attempt to grow seedlings from these and thus ensure the continued existence of the pure Arriba. This excellent chocolate goes well with red wines with a strong emphasis on wood and tannins, such as Zweigelt or Merlot. But also with creamy white wines such as Chardonnay, Pinot Gris or a mature Riesling. The same goes for a cognac or armagnac.
