Pili-Pili Pepper

Ingredients: Pili-pili pepper. Pili-pili is a variety of African, West Indian and American red pepper, small in size and very hot, of the Capsicum frutescens species. This pepper is widely used in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Portugal, Brazil and Angola as piri-piri. The term pili-pili means hot pepper in the Bantu languages, especially in Lingala, "pili-pili" means pepper and many other sub-Saharan languages (then written without a hyphen). Pilipili is an ingredient in Tanzanian, Kenyan and Malagasy cuisines where it is also called pily kely (“little pili”). It is also used in sauces originating from Mali and to make spicy oil for pizza, in particular based on kayes oils. The pili-pili is at level 6/10 of the Scoville scale so quite spicy but very aromatic.
