WALDGOLD spice mix samphire beechnut

With our unique spice blend of samphire and beechnut, you will experience the naturally salty taste of the coast combined with fine aromas from the mainland! This spice mixture is intense in flavour and goes well with almost all dishes, making it the ideal alternative to “classic” salt! Coast meets forest | Purely plant-based | No additional salt source Samphire, also known as sea or samphire. Sea asparagus is a classic coastal vegetable.   It grows on the edge of the sea and can cope well with conditions that are often very difficult for other plants. It has even developed a special feature: it can grow in salt water and even needs this to survive. Unlike most plants that die/dry out when exposed to salt water, the glasswort can absorb the salt water directly and store the salt in its cells. This is what makes samphire so interesting from a culinary perspective. Its stems, which are visually reminiscent of asparagus, have an intense aroma and at the same time a high, natural salt content.  Various sources report that this salt has better bioavailability and can therefore be better absorbed by the body.    Only recently, the Leibniz University of Hannover published the press release “Using salt-tolerant plants to combat the effects of climate change”, in which the samphire plays a central role (https://www.uni-hannover.de/de/universitaet/aktuelles/online-aktuell/details/news/mit-salztoleranten-pflanzen-gegen-die-folgen-des-klimawandels).    In addition to the positive climatic effects, the press release reports the following: “In addition, Salicornia is not only tasty, but also healthy: The plant is rich in polyphenols, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.“ But back to the culinary arts: dried samphire is the perfect salt alternative! And don’t worry, it doesn’t taste strongly of the sea like fish or seaweed! In our opinion, this natural salt source with slightly maritime notes goes perfectly with the mild, nutty aroma of the beechnut -> coastal vegetable meets the local nut from the forest! Combined with other plant-based ingredients, this creates an extraordinary flavor profile that gives all your dishes a well-rounded taste experience.    Whether with fish or meat, with side dishes such as rice or pasta or with any vegetables, you can use our samphire beechnut spice mix in many different ways. There are virtually no limits to your imagination.
