As its name suggests, its origins date back to Roman times when the seeds were mixed with unfermented grape juice to brush on meat or fish. The strength of traditions Nowadays, our Old-fashioned mustard is made in Alsace. It is prepared from whole mustard seeds, unlike regular mustard which is made from crushed mustard seeds. The seeds are first soaked in vinegar, then mixed with salt. They are then roughly crushed to obtain a paste with whole grains. This paste is finally left to rest in barrels for several days, which gives it its grainy texture and unique taste. Old-fashioned mustard is often used to accompany grilled meats or sandwiches, and is highly regarded for its strong taste and texture which adds crunch to dishes.
