WALNUT KERNELS

Walnut kernels are the edible parts of the walnut, located inside the shell.  They are generally used as an ingredient in many recipes or eaten plain.  Walnut kernels are rich in health-promoting fatty acids, including omega-3, as well as protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals such as magnesium and copper.  They are also an important source of antioxidant compounds, which help protect cells from oxidative stress.  Walnut kernels can be added to salads, pasta dishes, desserts or simply eaten as is as a snack.
