The wine tradition of the Calvados-Grisy region (protected geographical indication) dates back to ancient times, with the first mention of wine in Normandy dating from 584, in the area around Lisieux. However, it is likely that the first vineyard planted was that of Avranchin. From the beginning of the second millennium, it was common in Normandy for each individual to own vineyards or wine income. In the 12th century, Rouen was the main port in Northern Europe for the wine trade. This Normandy vineyard went through difficult times over time, due to political and economic factors, until a production ban was decreed in 1731. The “Arpents du Soleil” wine is grown in the heart of Normandy, near Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives.
