Originally from Abar in India, cardamom is a reed-like plant whose green or black capsules contain seeds with a camphor and aromatic scent. Introduced in Europe by Alexander the Great who brought it back from India, the "Queen of Spices" quickly found its place in royal gastronomy. It is notably mentioned in the accounts of apothecaries of the House of Savoy, dated from the 14th century.
