The Plata distillery, built in 1943 in the plains of the state of Jalisco near Guadalajara, is one of the largest in Mexico. However, it is still the property of the Garcia family and its production remains very artisanal. The agaves used for the production of tequila come from the company's fields located in the Los Altos region and not from the plains of Jalisco, giving it its characteristic sweetness. They are cooked in autoclaves and, after double distillation in stainless steel stills, before being aged in oak barrels. The two main brands are Herencia and Reserva del Señor.
