Apart from the nutritional qualities of spirulina, its cultivation has a positive impact on the environment. It is by far the one that produces the most protein per hectare (50 tons/ha/year for spirulina against 160 kg/ha/year for beef and 2 tons/ha/year for soya) and requires lowest water consumption (40 times less than beef, 4 times less than soy). A great oxygen producer, its culture does not emit greenhouse gases.
Its harvesting process is organized on a closed circuit in aboveground basins containing a shallow depth of culture medium (about 10 cm), this is pumped and filtered to extract the spirulina and returns to its original basin. Spirulina is grown without pesticides. It is dried at low temperature (below 40°).
