Nutmeg - Nut me whole

In the neighboring garden of Sisira Kotandeniya, a stone's throw from Nihal's forest garden in Wepatha, where we get our fantastic pepper, the big green nutmeg trees grow. The nutmegs ripen on the tree until they fall to the ground, and are therefore fully ripe when collected. The nut is removed, after which they are dried and shelled before they are shipped to us. The nutmeg is spicy and aromatic with a slightly sweet aftertaste and is fantastic in baked goods, drinks, chai and of course a good homemade lasagna with bechamel.
