Commitments

The passion for rigor
At Basile et Téa, chocolate is far too important not to be taken seriously. This desire permeates every aspect of the production chain, where every step, every moment is the subject of meticulous care and zealous attention. During our training and experiences, we worked alongside exceptional professionals, whose demands and mastery were inspired by passion. Thanks to the transmission of their know-how and technical knowledge, we are part of the same state of mind: our organization and our methodology leave nothing to chance, and carry within them respect for our ingredients, attention to every detail to deliver a delicious product in every bite, but also the desire not to throw away any raw materials. We shape all our products by hand, in a working environment where temperatures and hygiene are constantly monitored, to preserve all the taste qualities of our finely selected chocolates. Supported by reliable and efficient production tools for the processing and cooking phases, we respect the ideal temperatures to the nearest degree to guarantee the taste and texture of an exceptional product.

Zero plastic packaging
Plastic has considerable consequences on the environment and the depletion of natural resources. However, at various scales, we can often do without its use. This is why Basile and Téa have chosen to package their product in packaging guaranteed to be plastic-free and entirely recyclable. Throughout our professional career, we have been able to observe the omnipresence of plastic: both in production (packaging of goods by our suppliers, often guided by health reasons, manufacturing tools and utensils), but also in the sale of products. finished (transparent bags, transparent boxes, and even when the packaging is made of cardboard, it is often covered with plastic film or film which makes it non-recyclable). Beyond our profession, we are often distraught by the quantity of plastic used for the packaging and transport of the products that we buy on a daily basis, as simple consumers.

We have therefore analyzed each stage of our production to limit its use as much as possible, with the objective of creating clean and responsible logistics, with the support of our partners. We have paid particular attention to our packaging: we have selected PEFC or FSC kraft, biosourced, 70%-80% recycled, and fully recyclable, as well as eco-designed adhesive tape made from biodegradable Natureflex film. The inks used are solvent-free, 100% dry extracts, low migration, carrying GREEN PAPER certification, ecological printing and paper. To protect our products in the shipping boxes, they are securely installed using kraft paper to remain stable.
Our boxes have been tailor-made according to our requirements and needs, and produced especially for us in small series by a French company. This zero-plastic packaging is a central element of a global approach which aims to reduce, on our scale, our environmental impact and our carbon footprint. Because we are convinced that the quality of a product is conceived in a coherent whole, a virtuous circle where each step, each detail highlights its value.

Origin of products
Good chocolate is made from the moment it is planted. The varieties and origins of the cocoa beans have a decisive importance in the quality of the chocolate and the richness of the aromas it reveals. The chocolates that we use to create our delicacies therefore come from a sector of excellence, and come from the prestigious house of Cluizel, founded in 1960. This renowned brand starts from the cocoa bean to the pistole of chocolate, which serves as the basis for our products. We start from this base to design and shape our finished products (tablet, ganache, praline, rock, mendiant, etc.). The cocoa beans from which it comes are carefully chosen to guarantee intense tasting and perfectly balanced aromas. The same goes for the candied fruits that we use (candied oranges, candied lemons, candied chestnuts), which come from the Corsiglia confectioner's house, synonymous with excellence since 1896. Although our profession requires foodstuffs from the four corners of the world, some are produced on our territory. This is why we favor French origin as much as possible for many elements: sugar, cream, butter, packaging, etc.). Our dried fruits come from Europe: Italy (PGI Piedmont hazelnut), Spain (Valencia almond) and Sicily (extra green pistachio). As for our vanilla, we naturally favor aromatic richness by working with real, large Bourbon Vanilla pods, collected when ripe, from a partner producer. We personally choose each of our suppliers, and our products are responsibly grown and non-GMO whenever possible.

Food additives
The lack of perspective on the use of certain food additives raises many questions. We therefore favor the precautionary principle, which blends perfectly with our desire to work with a natural material, in an approach of excellent craftsmanship. Indeed, food additives are often used in an approach that benefits the producer, and not the consumer: it involves reducing costs, artificially increasing shelf life and making it easier to obtain certain textures, flavors and colors. If authorized additives are considered safe by the authorities, this is only the case in a specific quantity. However, users do not measure and do not take into account their consumption of additives. Not to mention that no data has studied the consequences of potential cocktail effects between several additives for people who mainly eat processed products. Faced with this lack of certainty, we favor the precautionary principle, despite the impact on our production costs. We favor the freshness (and therefore the taste intensity) of our products over their shelf life, and the only elements categorized as additives that we use are those based on natural ingredients, certainly more restrictive, but which allow us to gain in quality and taste to provide you with a perfectly healthy final product in addition to being delicious. We do not use any synthetic additives or colorings.
