Medulio Mencía DO Valdeorras (Galicia) - Harvest 2022

Medulio is the fruit of centuries-old Mencía and Merenzao vines, which grow on the steep slopes of Larouco between 500 and 700 meters above sea level. 
Grown in glass, on terraces that cover the landscape dotted between chestnut forests. 
The characteristic warm and shallow soil of this area, covered with slate with frequent bands of sandstone and shale, gives this red a characteristic intensity and depth, imprinting on it all the character of its origin.
 PREPARATION AND AGEING The artisanal harvest techniques stand out, by which the bunches of the old vines have been selected by hand, one by one, at their optimal moment of maturation. 
After collection, they were transported in wooden boxes weighing no more than 20kg to the warehouse. 
It was later made and rested in a French oak foudre.
 TASTING NOTE - Visual phase: tall glass, cherry red color with violet reflections. -Olfactory phase: the nose is elegant and fresh, accompanied by nuances of ripe red and black fruits. -Tasting phase: harmonious with velvety roundness. 
Balanced and fresh acidity, with well-structured and elegant tannin.
 SERVICE AND PAIRING Medulio, from the Valdeorras Designation of Origin, is the perfect companion to red meats, such as beef, pork, lamb or duck. 
It is also advisable to taste it with cheeses, since these help to enhance the contrast of its fruity characteristics.   Serve at a serving temperature of between 13 and 15ºC.
 ALCOHOLIC GRADE 13.5% VOL.
 PRODUCTION AND VINTAGE Exclusive and limited production of 4.000 bottles, from the 2022 harvest.
