The Märkische Specialty Distillery was only opened in 2010 and is therefore one of the youngest distilleries in Germany. It is very picturesque in a former, lovingly prepared forge in a suburb of Hagens on the northern edge of the Sauerland. The first whiskey was distilled on the opening day. The ripening usually takes place in the depths of the Dechenhöhle at a constant temperature and high humidity. Distillers description: Colour: light gold, winter sun Nose: grainy, fruity like apple peel, very slightly floral, the wood aromas are not obvious, only add to the complexity Taste: the apple peel and the cereal aromas are clearly in the foreground, warm spicy notes, a little vanilla, light notes of zest, herbal like dried mint Finish: it is the spicy aromas in particular that remain on the palate, and a subtle leather note even develops very late The whiskeys from the Märkische Specialty Distillery are principally single cask fillings and are similar in their maltiness, soft fruit and warm spicy notes. The good and complex mouthfeel is additionally supported by a slightly higher alcohol content.
