Although its size is small, it is the fifth largest coffee producer in the world. The diversity of its microclimates makes it produce very different coffees. The cultivation of the robusta variety is prohibited by law, which is why all coffee in Honduras is Arabica. Coffee is grown in 15 of the 18 Honduran departments. The main producing areas of Honduras are: Copán, Comayagua, Agalta, Opalaca, Montecillos and El Paraiso. The department of Copán is in the west of the country, bordering Guatemala. Coffee is grown in the shade of fruit trees and on forest floors. Pacamara is a unique coffee variety and considered quite exotic. Its grains are characterized by their large size. It is a hybrid of the Pacas and Maragogipe varieties, hence its name.
