Couvent Rouge was founded in Deir El Ahmar in 2010 to produce wine as a viable alternative to illegal cultivation and to complement the Coteaux d'Heliopolis wine grape cooperative founded in 1999.

It pursues organic vine cultivation in its vineyards in Deir El Ahmar, a village 17 km north of Baalbek, the City of the Sun, which is home to the famous Roman Temple of Bachhus and the largest Roman temple still standing in the world.

The altitude of the vineyards varies between 950 and 1650 meters above sea level and the soils are red, clayey or gravelly at higher altitudes and the region benefits from over 300 days of sunshine per year.

The Lebanese winery strives to transform Deir El Ahmar into a wine-growing village and to sustain the village's families by buying their harvest at a fair price in their hometown.

Couvent Rouge's mission is to put Lebanon on the map of wine producing countries and revitalize what this side of the world produced best during the Roman Empire.

It is a young and modern winery that produces a wide range of wines, from affordable entry-level wines to fine, high-end oak-aged wines.
