Located in the town of Saint-Cannat, 15 km from Aix-en-Provence, Château Montaurone is a family property which extends over more than 350 hectares.

From a historical point of view, in the 13th century, Montaurone was part of a Templar commandery. In the 19th century, this property was a “departmental model farm” with a rural school where general and scientific education oriented towards agriculture was provided.

Property of the DECAMPS family, owner-harvester, for more than 40 years, this place steeped in history has become, today, a wine and olive estate.

Established at an altitude of 200 m and rooted on a limestone plateau, the vine must descend deep into the stony soil to find its nutrition. The dry and hot climate in summer and very cold in winter favors the ripening of the grapes.

Concerned about ecology and aware of the privileged environment in which the estate operates, we have always been keen to work on the production of our land using sustainable agriculture. To take this ecological approach further, we chose to start converting our vines to organic farming in 2011.

Little by little and plot by plot, it was completed in 2016. It is with a certain pride that we now offer, exclusively, quality organic wines.

Let’s talk about quality, it is at the heart of all our approaches.

Our vineyard covers 91 hectares and is fully classified, mainly in Protected Designation of Origin (AOP) Coteaux d'Aix en Provence as well as IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) Mediterranean. Its production is mainly dedicated to our rosé wines, around 85%, the rest is shared between the production of our red wines and that of our white wines.

The grape varieties are divided between Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Cabernet Sauvignon for our red and rosé wines. Our white wine is made from Ugni Blanc, Clairette and Vermentino.

Our wines are mainly vinified using the traditional method in concrete and stainless steel vats. Our Cuvée Excellence and our Excellence are aged in French oak barrels.

Our olive plantation extends over 8 hectares and has around 1,800 trees of different varieties, among which we mainly find the Aglendau and Salonenque varieties. Our oil is also classified and benefits from the AOP PROVENCE designation. It is produced exclusively from olives picked on our land. They are then transported to the mill which is responsible for crushing and processing. After that, the packaging and bottling are carried out at the Château by us.
Our oil is in its third year of conversion to organic farming.
