The tradition of Belgian beer goes back to the first Crusaders of the 12th century, when beer was so perfectly crafted that it was preferred to water. Through the turmoil of the following centuries, the peaceful peoples of the pays d'en bas (Flanders and the Netherlands) and of the Burgundian states (Pays d'en haut) suffered the consequences of multiple wars. However, there was one thing that always remained sacred in the daily social life of these people who were to become real Belgians: beer.
They don't need much and don't care to brag, but from the bustling streets of Antwerp and Brussels to the peaceful nature of the Ardennes of the Burgundian states, no true Belgian misses the after-work beer session.
