In the heart of Daunia, between the Daunian sub-Apennines and the Gargano promontory, stands San Severo, a city of ancient winemaking traditions, the first city in Puglia to obtain DOC recognition as early as 1968.
The ancient historic center of Sanseverese is dotted with churches, whose bell towers, towering above the houses, point straight towards the sky, while countless cellars used by private individuals for refining wines have been excavated underground for centuries.
ANDIt is precisely in the countryside of San Severo, a land historically suited to the production of white wines, that the white bombino, a native vine, has expressed all its potential in sparkling wine production.
The absolute protagonist of this story is the native Bombino Bianco vine, obtained from vineyards planted in calcareous-clayey soils with good silt and sand components, located between 80 and 100 meters above sea level.L.m.   in a microclimate refreshed by the sea breezes coming from the nearby coast of the Lesina marina. Exposure to the sun and the arid climate makes it possible to grow the vine which, in these circumstances, expresses its maximum potential, generating, thanks to entrepreneurial skill, sparkling wines of notable quality.
The Re Dauno cellars have two hearts.
Like all beautiful things, they arise from two personal stories that come true in a common life project.   After an experience of almost half a century of predecessors that evolved among vineyards and labyrinths of tunnels, we too, convinced of the potential of our territory, have decided to invest in sparkling wines, with the aim of preserving the original values and valorising a land extraordinary.
We are Angelina Radatti and Francesco Toma, we have been married for many years, and since 2013 we have decided to live from our passion: producing classic method sparkling wine.
The name of our cellars comes from the marriage between King Daunus' daughter, Drionia and Diomede.
According to Renaissance legend, once the Greek hero arrived in Capitanata, he dedicated the name of the new city he founded to his wife, Castrum Drionis, the current San Severo, home of our business.
