Originally from Alsace, Olivier arrived in Brittany at the age of 17
He quickly fell in love with the region and a girl from the coast.
After working for around twenty years in the food industry, at the dawn of his forties, he decided, supported by his family, to try to make a living from his passion “BEER”
In 2014, he took over a café where he organized concerts and sold his beer directly, “BIERE DU PATRON”
But, the job of coffee maker only leaves him little time to brew and satisfy his passion, so in 2017 he decided to stop and look for a place to brew full time
His research takes him, quite naturally, to the Left Bank, it is there that he arrived in Brittany, where he met and married his wife and where his first child was born.
In January 2017, he opened Yermat bier, the micro brewery of Port Louis in the main street of the small maritime city.
Why Yermat you tell me? He ran a bar and when his customers toasted, they said
“yermat” in Breton yech’ed mat
It brews a range of 8 regular beers, “blonde, brown, amber, ipa, capstan, an oriant, gouelan and minahouet as well as an ephemeral range according to the seasons using fruits, flowers etc. from the surrounding nature
He likes to give free rein to his creativity and his touch of madness, which will result in beers such as An Oriant “Medal winner at the agricultural show” and in Lyon
All beers are brewed, bottled and labeled by hand. The beers are top-fermented, unfiltered, unpasteurized and refermented in the bottle, production is then 100hl/year and doubles quickly, the beers are sold directly in the adjoining shop, in the markets, in restaurants, cellars etc.
In 2021, the premises reaching saturation point for production, he decided to leave Port Louis for a larger production site located in the neighboring town: Locmiquélic, the country of Minahouet
The Rive Gauche microbrewery was born
The goal in this new premises is to develop production to increase to 500hl and after spending 4 years working alone apart from help from his wife Myriam on the creation, marketing, communication side, he is finally hiring in 2022
