MANGUIN: AN ISLAND IN PROVENCE .
Between the Palace of the Popes in Avignon and the Tour Philippe Le
Bel de Villeneuve Lez Avignon, which united in the 14th century
the famous bridge of Avignon with its 21 arches, the Barthelasse
is the largest river island in Europe with a land of sand and
silt, swept by the mistral, suitable for growing fruit
of exception, soaked in the sun of Provence.
It was there, in the 1940s, that Claude Manguin, agronomist
talented, plants and cultivates several tens of hectares
pear and peach trees and provides exceptional fruit
the most famous delicatessens including Fauchon.
In 1957, the Charentais stills began to distill the
fruits and “La Poire Manguin” will become the flagship brandy of
the house presents on the most beautiful gastronomic tables
from France and elsewhere.
Since 2011, Béatrice and Emmanuel Hanquiez, new
owners, driven by a passion for the quintessence,
perpetuate the know-how of the house and create spirits
of excellence.
